How to track errors in a remote syslog file

    Hi all,

I managed to get a client to push its log file to zabbix and I set up an alert if there were any regexp matches in it.

I used this technique to monitor the numerous java app servers we have running (on XenServer - gotta love opensource!).

The problem is that I couldn't figure out how to say "only match if the results are new", so I kept getting the same errors over and over again.

Unfortunately I did this a while ago and now I am re-installing the machine I cannot remember exactly what steps I took to get it working. It was as simple as defining a log file and then an item in the appropriate template to search for the matching string.

    Is anyone doing anything similar?

    Thanks!
