trigger function comparison

Hello!
I have created a custom UserParameter for one of my agents. The script is parsing through some other application logs and what I get is a date in the format YYYYMMDD.
What I need to implement now is a trigger that can compare that value received from the agent with the current date, and if they are different to fire up the trigger.
I am banging my head against the forums and documentation, but I can't seem to be able to find something that works.
