Zabbix Appliance 1.8.4 - Active Check Issue

Hey everyone I'm hoping someone can help me with this as I have searched everything on here and google and have yet to find an answer.

I'm evaluating the Appliance 1.8.4, downloaded it as a VM and I love it, everything works great as long as I'm using passive checks.

However with active checks I'm getting limited data and some is incorrect. I have only tried this with windows agents so far but I have tried it on machines both on the LAN and WAN and issue is the same, tried 3 different Windows operating systems as well.

Active checks are returning the following:

Host information is incorrect - Saying Linux noc 2.6.34.7....
Free Memory is incorrect, 23.97 MB when its much more
    Total Memory is incorrect
Swap space showing as 0 when thats not correct

This issue has occurred with all versions of the zabbix agent including the 1.9 agent.

I have looked in both Agent & Server logs and havenn't found anything that indicates an issue from what I can tell.

I'm not that good with linix technologies being a windows guy but I'm hoping this issue won't exist once I build my production install, I was just hoping to get a better evaluation of it using the appliance.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Oh and I can telnet to my server on port 10051, I have tried setting it to listen at 0.0.0.0 as well as its actual IP, verified host names on Agent match whats configured in the zabbix hosts, etc..

Anyone else have this problem or do you think its related to the appliance build? I'm looking over documentation on building out my own install but this will be my first Linux OS load.

Same issue with 1.8.5 running on a VM, not sure if its something with the VM environment or what, issue occurring internally so its not a firewall issue (Windows firewall is off on the VM server, even turned off the firewall on the zabbix VM)

I guess I'm going to have to install my first linux OS on a physical server.

Ok I figured out my problem here. I didn't have active checks configured properly with changing the item type to Agent (Active) and so it was picking up data from the 0.0.0.0 local host which was the zabbix server itself. not sure if the VM environment had anything to do with it, but after configuring active checks correctly everything is working as it should.

          Need Your help

          Hey Falkon,

I know that U can help on this matter because I am trying to do what you already have accomplished. Here are my question.

          (a) The Appliance option, is part of the Zabbix download or is something that I need to download separate ?

          (b) I need instruction of how to download to my Linux VM machine, and start the install ?

          (c) Do I need Suse to work with the Appliance ?

          (d) Is the Appliance a Module inside the Zabbix Package.

I am sorry for that many question; but I am really new to all this. I thank you for your help

          Cheers,

            Cheers,
            (a) - Yes the appliance is available as a seperate download option on the site

            (b) - I'm not that good with linux so can't help you here, I added the appliance to my VMWare environment easily though

            (c) - If your using the appliance as a VM it runs in its own environment

            (d) - The appliance is a preconfigured Zabbix environment available as a seperate download on the site:

            http://www.zabbix.com/download.php

            Look under the appliance section

            Hope this helps.
