Recovery after server down

I use zabbix 1.8.2 and most data is collected via proxy's. If the server is down or unreachable for any reason I don't loose any data when the server recovers - but it is very slow to 'catch up'. What is the logic used to by the server under these conditions and can I speed it up the catch 'up rate' somehow.

illustrate the point

To illustrate the point - the sever broke on Friday and is now restored. I estimate that it will have caught up in about 2 weeks - so no monitoring until then.
