    Zabbix Housekeeper vs. Item Settings

I've looked around for quite a bit and can't find a clear answer to this.

I am using 1.8.4. I have most of my items configured to keep history for 70 days and trends for 390 days. My Zabbix housekeeper is configured to not keep actions or events older than 390 days.

    1) What is the difference between actions and events in the housekeeper? I think actions are things like configuration changes, user logins, etc., whereas events are item history...but I have no idea.

    2) If I have an item history of 70 days, but the Zabbix housekeeper is set to 390 days, will the item history be purged from the database after 70 days, or will it wait until it reaches 390 days?

    3) Does Zabbix housekeeper affect trending data at all?

I'm basically just confused as to what to set. In the end, I want to keep item history for 70 days and trends for 390 days, so I don't know what to set or where to set it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Michael

monitoring -> events; administration -> audit -> actions

housekeeper is not set to days, it runs every hour. item history will be purged after 70 days.

yes - that's what the item "trends" parameter is for

if you have item history set to 70 and trends to 390, that's exactly the part affecting them

I understand the housekeeper runs every hour, but there is a setting in:
      /zabbix/config.php (General / Housekeeper section)
"Do not keep events older than (in days)"

What is the point of this setting? Does it impact housekeeping of items?

My item history is set to 70 days. My item trends are set to 390 days. What is this housekeeper setting for if the housekeeper uses settings from the item itself? Right now I have this set at 390 days.

      Thanks!

"Do not keep events" is for... events
it does not impact item history or trend storing.

history and trend retention parameters are per item and that's what controls item history or trend. mm. retention period.

housekeeper interval is the interval with which it runs to delete history and trend information that is older than specified in item properties.

Worth to mention the following sentence from this link:

For history and trends an additional option is available: Override item history period and Override item trends period. This option allows to globally set for how many days item history/trends will be kept, in this case overriding the values set for individual items in History storage period/Trend storage period fields in item configuration.
Which technically means that, even though you have specific times for History and Trends across all items from all templates, you can overwrite all of them, with the option Overwrite history period OR Overwrite trend period checked + the data storage period defined for each one of them.
