    Discovery is not detecting all hosts

    I have set discovery for 192.168.1.0-255 and set checks for ICMP Ping, TCP and Zabbix agent.

    It only discovered the zabbix server and my adsl router. There are windows PC and iPods on the network.

    One windows PC has the zabbix agent installed and running. I have opened port 10050 (TCP) on the windows firewall. Should this be TCP or UDP?
    The agent-conf file has just one line;

    Server=192.168.1.21

    The discovery still has not discovered and windows PCs or iPods.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Civray!

    It is well to TCP for the port 10050 (but UDP it's possible).
    If you're agent.conf files contain only the server address, check zabbix_agent not work.
    Regarding the discovery by PING, you have no machines that appear in Monitoring-> Discovery?
    For me the discovery of some machines had more than one day, yet the checks were made every 5mins ...
    You can try running a Wireshark capture to see if the PINGs are doing.

      wireshark

      running wireshark shows that my windows client is repeatly sending tcp messages to the zabbix server. The zabbix server then appears to acknowedge the message.

      However, i see no traffic coming from the zabbix server. I was expecting to see pings from the zabbix server for the discovery of new hosts.

      I have tried manually adding the windows host, but zabbix still does not seem to collect any data from it.

        Discovery is now working

        Discovery is now working.

        I suspect the problem was an incorrect path to the fping utility in ther server conf file.
