Zabbix_server is not running on zabbix server (and other issues)

Hi guys and girls,

I have installed Zabbix server on the testing Fuduntu14 64bit Workstation. Following this tutorial:

Also i remember me playing around with this:

But i dont remember anymore did i finaly used it or not. I think not.

Now i have been looking around for some guides or information on using/configuring Zabbix. Whole the monitoring thing is new for me so.

So now i have the following errors:


Any suggestions on how do i solve them?

p.s. This machine also runs test of glpi (but not important anymore because ive already moved (clean installed actually) the glpi to CentOS 5 server, because its working like it should ). And busy testing FOGproject right now.

Are these errors true? I mean is your zabbix server actually down, IMAP down and so on? If not you simply can disable those item or even directly triggers which are now fired up; and you’re not going to see `em in “Last 20 issues.” I did so back in days

Hi Davidus,
as far as i understand, it is possible that i have enabled to much of a triggers.
And yes, zabbix is running because the screen shot is from it right? I mean it is running. No idea why i would complain. And this is what i want to figure out. If its not to complicated offcourse. Because it is normally to have it monitoring itself right?
As far as i understand imap and pop and so on are the email server things. But no, im not running an email server here on this machine, or anywhere. So thisone im happy to disable. Any suggestions how? And/or any suggestions on any Zabbix configuration/user guide. Because ive found a view install guides but not much configuration/usage guides.

Disable trigger:
Go to configuration-hosts, choose host - click on triggers
Find you trigger and do following

I am also getting exact same problem. Is disabling the trigger the best solution? I guess disabling the trigger means we are hiding the errors and errors are still on the system right? There should be some other way to solve this issue. I would really appreciate if someone over here can guide us how to get rid of this errors out disabling the Triggers

In my personal opinion this is the best solution. What else can you do if you don’t have POP3 server or IMAP in real? Personally I disabled this triggers and since have never faced any kind of issues at all

The default linux template has all services enabled. which is great for testing but not that great in a real deployment scenario.

If you link a host to this template, and that host has only one service running on it, you have to disable the item/trigger on this host. in order to avoyd the false alerts.. zabbix doesn't know what to monitor , YOU have to tell it what to do ...

On my setup I removed every service item /trigger on the linux template, keeping only the basic set that is used on all the hosts. and still i have to disable items that are not on all hosts (like secondary ethernet or partitions)

For different services check I have other templates that I link to the hosts depending on what I'm supposed to monitor on them.

only problem with that is when you start using trigger dependencies, as you can't make a trigger depend on a trigger that is not in the same template (or in a linked template). but that's another story alltogether...

Thank you very much guys. I appreciate it alot. Tha suggestions and responses. And i see its quite active here. As soon as i get back to work ill check it out. To disable the triggers. For imap and pop for sure. Only what seems strange to me how can running zabbix server say zabbix is not running. But ok ill maybe also disable the trigger for it.

for the zabbix server is not running problem :

check the item, it looks for a process name zabbix-server or the like.
on my system, the process is named zabbix-server-mysql. Y had to change the item to match the real process name...

however on the dashboard, it still tells me the zabbix is not running. I did't find it important enouth to dig in and understand how the dashboard get its status...
