Best way to monitor interactive services?

Hi,

I'm new to Zabbix and I've a question,

I would like to test interactive services such as pop3, smtp with auth and imap (or a web page with an htaccess auth...) by using a test account and by trying to do a login.

I need to do an external script (I think of an expect script http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expect) or there is something already supported inside Zabbix?

My suggestion would be going through zabbix manual before you go any farther
