Ping Failures when moving Host from Server to Proxy

Recently, I added some windows event log monitors to some of my hosts - as a result, I started experiencing ping failures on a high volume of OTHER hosts. To mitigate this, I moved those hosts from my Zabbix Proxy server to instead report their data directly to the Zabbix server. This eventually cleared up the Ping failures and caused my queue to return to normal levels.

That was two days ago. Since then, every time I try to move even a single host back to the proxy (Note: the majority of my hosts still collect from there) I experience ping failures shortly thereafter and my queue starts to look ugly. The host that I have been using for this test has 38 items - 34 PerfCounter Zabbix Agent items, 3 Service State Zabbix Agent items, and 1 Windows event log Active Zabbix Agent item.

For reference, my queue normally looks something like:
    5 seconds,10 seconds,30 seconds,1 minute,5 minutes,More than 10 minutes
    54,0,1,4,22,9

Are there any changes or tuning I can do on the proxy to improve on this situation? I'm currently running 25 pollers (I increased it from 15 without effect). The proxy is running with over 1GB of free memory and the CPU shows as 98% idle, so the box itself doesn't appear to be taxed, but Zabbix clearly isn't keeping up somehow?
