    Zabbix Upgrade 1.8.5 to 1.8.6

    Hi there,

Sorry guys, sometimes wish things were windows based so would make more sense to me

new release of zabbix sounds great and many patches and fixes. However the upgrade from 1.8.5 to 1.8.6 is my question.

Now im running stable with no issues on 1.8.5. My fear is upgrading and things crashing, mainly due to my lack of knowledge of Linux based systems.

Ive read the release notes and it says 'Recompile Zabbix binaries and update front-end PHP files' Now that part lost me.

Ive gone to the link to read up as below but it only shows from 1.6 to 1.8. What if i have 1.8.5 and want to upgrade to 1.8.6?
    http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...on_and_upgrade

Sorry i know im probably over looking the point here somewhere or missing something simple. But want to double check or what others recommend before bringing down my Zabbix server and losing time with monitoring clients and my time trying to repair everything.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    Hello,

    Perhaps this information can help:

    1º - Recompile Zabbix binaries
    For example:
    ./configure --enable-server --with-mysql --with-net-snmp --with-jabber --with-libcurl

    2º - Update front-end PHP files
Copy the new files of PHP frontend from frontends/php

      and surely 1.1.:
      Code:
      ./make install

Does anyone have any idea why am I getting a "error: MYSQL library not found"?

I'm upgarding from the old 1.8.4 vmdk.
Are there certain packages needed to be installed?

You need to have the development libraries installed as well.

          e.g. on debian its libmysqlclient-dev

Yeah I just figured it out thanks!

But I have a different issue though.
After running the config file then "make install" which went perfectly fine without an error or warning, I copied and overwrited the content of frontends\php with my current. Yet Zabbix's web app still shows as 1.8.4.
            What am I missing here?

if i recall correctly, appliance had frontend in /usr/share/zabbix

now, there might be multiple ways to proceed... one problem that you most likely have - you still have zabbix packages installed. this can be very confusing later when you (or somebody else) try to identify software versions or remove packaged versions.

if you plan to keep on compiling from source in the future, i'd suggest backing up all config files, removing zabbix packages and installing from source.
as for the frontend, you could just place it in /srv/www/htdocs/zabbix (after ensuring that default apache redirect is gone with frontend package uninstallation - or updated manually)

                Thanks for the reply.
But what if I only plan on upgrading?
How do I simply change the version without having to reinstall everything?

no database changes required for such an upgrade

well, do you plan to upgrade once and forget about it forever and ever, or maybe you (or even somebody else) could try to upgrade it at some point in the future as well?

doing it at least a bit more properly could save you serious headache later.

I'm not so sure I understand what you mean...
All I want is to keep an up to date version (with all my previous data of course) and have the new features added.
