    Getting Started JBoss SNMP Monitoring

I am picking up where a predecessor left off with JBoss monitoring with zabbix. He extended the MIB and associated XML in jboss to include some stuff we are interested in. One thing I'm just not sure about is how to add the new mib to Zabbix. Another thing is when building items what to put in the key field.

For anyone who is interested I'm having issues validating JBoss is listening. I see the ports I specify as open in the OS but I can't get anything from snmpwalk.

I have no experience with JBoss but hope this helps.

Zabbix uses the system MIBs. If you add them there, and restart Zabbix, it should pick it up. On CentOS/RedHat they are located in /usr/share/snmp/mibs/ (with a .txt extension). You can test if they load ok using snmpwalk.

With snmp items the key is arbritary but will have to remain unique per template/host. I tend to use the same value as the OID, barring the :: (and part before : as they are invalid characters for the key.

    Cheers,

Does an snmpwalk work from the JBoss host?

        I don't know

The JBoss host is a Windows 2003 box and I have not put any SNMP tools on it. My Zabbix host is CentOS so it has snmpwalk. Do you think it is worth the effort? I assume you were looking for a firewall or apparmor/selinux issue.

No, actually. I was just looking for a way to verify it was getting any data. Yes, network and firewall and permissions/acls can prevent data flow, so I was trying to see if you had a way to get around that.

It was the values in the JBoss configuration file managers.xml

I reverted everything back to stock and then it worked. Next I replace just attributes.mib and attributes.xml and it still worked. The only other file I changed was managers.xml.

I looked at the comments and the element names and set them to what I thought were correct values. Now I need to find out what they really do.

            Thanks all
