    This account is currently not available

    Hey all, I just downloaded and installed Zabbix on a CentOS 5.6 machine. I'm down to the "Creating user Zabbix and running Zabbix Server" section of the installation instructions (http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/howto/ins.../centosinstall) and trying, unsuccessfully, to su to my zabbix user. When I do that I get the following error, "This account is currently unavailable." Grepping the passwd file gives me:

    zabbix:x:101:103:Zabbix Monitoring System:/var/lib/zabbix:/sbin/nologin

    Grepping shadow gives me:

    zabbix:$1$6J3hLNcZ$5CLXCQAEAxMwpl7inFLTF/:15211::::::

    Google had nothing helpful for me and when I searched this forum I came up empty. Any ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations? I'm still learning about Linux so if I'm overlooking something simple please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Joe B

    This Unix user

    zabbix:x:101:103:Zabbix Monitoring System:/var/lib/zabbix:/sbin/nologin

    Is named zabbix, your home directory is /var/lib/zabbix an your shell is /sbin/nologin

    A normal user have shell like /sbin/sh where sh can be bash, ksh, csh, rsh, bsh, etc

    In this type of instalation you can execute comands with identity of zabbix, but user zabbix can't logon. Try something like :

    $ sudo -u zabbix command

    Look sudo manual !

    $ man sudo

      elemarmb, I redid the account and now it works. I grepped the user out of the passwd file and now his shell is correct; no more nologin. Thanks for the tip that pointed me in the right direction to get the account working!

      Thanks,
