Send snmp traps from Zabbix to other NMS

    Hi,

I am using zabbix for monitoring my application which is not snmp-aware (i.e. using net.tcp.port item). Now my question is

    (1) is it possible that when the application is down then zabbix will generate some snmp trap and send to other snmp manager like Netcool etc.?

    (2) is it possible to generate snmp traps corresponding to whatever zabbix monitors and send to other snmp manager like Netcool etc.?

A quick response is highly appreciated.

    Regards

I do not find snmp suitable for communication between management systems.
I would suggest to use some sort of text communication e.g. syslog (or mail) done by actions in zabbix. Easy to implement, easy to transport information.
    Just my opinion.

      Yeah! agree.

But here I am facing the scenario where I have to use SNMP. Can you please clarify one thing that zabbix_send can send traps to zabbix server only or to any other NMS...

Sorry now when I think of it, you can actually use e.g. the snmptrap or snmpinform commands to send snmp traps or information (text) regarding your applications to the other nms tool. May even be more easy then using syslog
        Use actions in zabbix.
I did that for long time ago between hp and ca unicenter - just 2 generic snmp traps - up and down for the devices / applications - but I cannot remember the details now

          Thanks.

I have configured it snmptrap command and zabbix "External check" item, hopefully this will serve the purpose

            Hi, Sridip
I'm working on the same purpose with you, would you mind share your experience on how you did it?

            thanks!

I am interested in sending traps to netcool for all triggers activated, I am aware that nagios has a method of doing this and has mibs around this. Has anyone been able to develop something similar to this for Zabbix.
I am thinking of modifying the nagios scripts for use on zabbix but this might be too much work if there is a simpler solution.

Hello. Were you able to resolve this? Particularly, sending SNMP traps from Zabbix to an external monitoring tool.

                  Hi Sridip,

Can you please share, how to send snmptrap from Zabbix to NetCool.

I have a situation to integrate Zabbix with NetCool.

                  Appreciate your inputs.

                  Thanks

                    Hi everyone,
I am now facing the same problem - snmp traps forwarding from ZABBIX to an upper NMS. Any suggestions and experiences would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Still actual request: How to generate/send SNMP Traps from Zabbix to Upper Management System, NMS, NBI, Umbrella? as example from Zabbix to Netcool / Nagios

On setting SNMP traps on sender side usually it is possible to specify more than one address or even broadcast address so trying to use zabbix to resend those traps is a bit pointless.

Unfortunately not always possible to do like this due to security reason or some other blocking points on the Customer side.

Did you try to ask customer to change those settings or do you assume that it will be impossible to do?
My understanding is that customer is changing monitoring software so because architecture of this part is changing it is obvious that some network settings changes will be necessary to apply as well. Isn't it?

                              I have a idea,

update package snmp by apt-get install snmp to zabbix
then write a script to generate snmp trap

when you detect your non snmp service down, call the script in trigger action.
                              did not test this ,,
