snmp issue with 32bit server

Hi all!!
i'm having an issue installing a zabbix proxy with snmp support for my zabbix 1.8.5 in my centos 5.6-32bit.
i have installed net-snmp-5.5.tar.gz made ./configure, make and make install. but at the time to do the ./configure to install zabbix proxy:
./configure --enable-proxy --with-sqlite3 --with-net-snmp --prefix=/zabbix
it says the following:
configure: error: Invalid NET-SNMP directory - unable to find net-snmp-config
so i put the path where the net-snmp-config is but it still prompts the same error message. also searching other posts from this forum i found that either putting the path to that archive or installing with yum install net-snmp-devel it solved the problem. but if i do a yum install net-snmp-devel it says if i want to install that rpm but the version is 5.3.2 and my net-snmp version is 5.5 i have tried to find the net-snmp-devel for my net-snmp version but i don't find it. so i don¡t know what to do.
it is wierd because in other zabbix proxy that are of 32 bits i managed to install fine the zabbix-proxy with net-snmp-5.5
if anybody can help me i will be pleased

Try --with-net-snmp=/usr/local/bin/net-snmp-config
also look at configure.log in zabbix src directory
+ have a look for net-snmp at http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/download.html. Try source - ./configure+make install(remove yours net-snmp 5.5 before)

thanks for your post.
i have tried putting the path to net-snmp-config but then it complains that it doesn't find the SNMP libraries, and if i put the path pointing to /usr/lib/ where are all the net-snmp libraries it complains that it doesn't find net-snmp-config, then i copied the net-snmp-config to /usr/lib/ but it doesn't recognize it.
i and my boss also looked at config.log but we wheren't able to know why it prompts this error. we saw the line of error in that file but we weren't able to solve it.
i also removed all the net-snmp-5.5 i had installed. then i tried the easy way with yum install, it installed the net-snmp-5.3.2.2, net-snmp-utils-5.3.2.2, net-snmp-devel-5.3.2.2 and net-snmp-libs-5.3.2.2 but i had the same issue. then i downloaded form net-snmp.org the latest version 5.6.1.1.tar.gz but i have the same problem.
i will have a look at the net-snmp
i can do snmpget, snmpwalk to any server of my network
i will try an older version of snmp and a newer zabbix version than the 1.8.5

Thanks a lot for you reply. i did what you told me and it solved the problem that i had with zabbix and snmp. you are absolutely right, your solution works for my centos 5.6 server
have you got idea why we have to solve the issue this way
