    Monitoring remote Windows service

    Can somebody help me with the monitoring of windows services with a active agent.
    Monitoring of a Window server works with a active agent except when I make a item and trigger for the services, it is not working.

    Done the same with an internal server and it works well.

    Item type of the remote server: Zabix agent (active)
    key: service_state[Spooler]
    trigger:{testsvr:service_state[Spooler].last(0)}>0

    Hi,
    What isn''t working? Data collection or the trigger?

        Maybe I understand you wrong.
        The 'data collection' of the service works neither, how can I see what the agent sends for data? and what for data is coming in the server?

          Hi,
          Have a look at the item status in the host config. If you hover the mouse over the status it should show you an error message. That often points you in the right direction.

          Alternatively you could run the zabbix agent in test mode (-t) on the client providing the item key as an argument and see what the agent says.

          David

            Hovering says nothing the status is active.
            Test mode:
            C:\zabbix>zabbix_agentd.exe -t service_state[Spooler]
            service_state[Spooler] [u|6]

              How are you determining that data-collection isn't working?

              Also, are you referring to the online documentation (http://www.zabbix.com/documentation) to guide you? Your questions seem so fundamental that it strikes me that you may not have referred to the documentation at all.

              Check out your item confiugration and environment and then come back telling me why you think it's not working; if indeed it is not. Then we can look at it again.

              David

                I am new to zabbix.
                I am three day busy reading everything in the documentation en on the forums.
                And I read the book Zabbix 1.8 Network Monitoring
                The same trigger works internal.
                When I stopped the service it must fire the trigger, it does internal.
                An item of free memory is getting the data from the remote agent, so that works.

                          Is the memory item you mentioned earlier also of "Zabbix agent (active)" type?

                            Monitoring remote Windows service

                            No it came from the template.
                            I have first set the type on Zabbix agent but it did not work and the documentation says that it must be changed into "Zabbix agent (active)".
                            I am a little bit confused about this.

                              Monitoring remote Windows service

                              Ok It seems that the info that I get is from the zabbix server.
                              I cannot find info about the settings of the host with active agent in the manuals.
                              I made the host like this:

                              It seems that ip adres is useless, dns?
                              Made alle the items of Type: 'Zabbix agent (active)
                              and the agent conf like:
                              -------------------------------------------------
                              LogFile=c:\zabbix\zabbix_agentd.log
                              EnableRemoteCommands=1
                              Server=<my Firewall>
                              Hostname=<name of remote server>
                              DisablePassive=1
                              DisableActive=0
                              # Server port for retrieving list of and sending active checks.
                              ServerPort=10051
                              RefreshActiveChecks=60
                              BufferSend=10
                              -----------------------------------------------
                              and of course in my firewall port 10051 nat to the zabbix server.
                              I started an syslog and nothing comes in.
                              I tried it with more than one remote site and with more than one remote server.
                              The firewalls on the remote site are total open from inside to outside.
                              What I've done wrong?
