Monitoring SMTP relay with Greet Pause

    Hello,

I'm trying to monitor without agent a SMTP port that is configured with greet pause (of 5 seconds). This means that the port doens't reply with the greet (220 xxx.yyy.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.14.4/8.14.4; Mon, 12 Mar 2012 08:32:52 +0100) until 5 seconds have passed.
My problem is that the Zabbix simple check, 'smtp' item, results in a down state. I think it's because there is a timeout for this simple check.
The workaround is to monitor the TCP state with tcp simple check, however, if I'm right about the timeout, Would it be possible to change this smtp timeout? Or is there another way to monitor this port with smtp check?

I hope I've explained that clearly.
    Thanks & regards!
