We created templates for most of our network devices using snmp OIDs. At device level, we disabled most of the items, because we only want to enable them when we are troubleshooting. So we currently monitor about 5300 items and have some 7800 disabled ones (and 500 unsupported ones).
We are now ready to start adding more hosts where we want to use the same principle: create a lot of items, but disabled most of them until we really need them.
Question is, is that policy going to have a significant performance impact? How does Zabbix determine for which items it has to collect values in the next polling interval?
