    SNMP name during discovery

Forgive if this has been asked. I searched and didn't find what I was looking for...

What do I need to do to get the device name to be the SNMP name? I'm not sure what OpenNMS does to retrieve it but when you have several hundred devices, renaming after a discovery is quite a chore....

    Thanks for any info.

    I have same problem.

Please is anyone able to automatically get interface names to item/trigger/graph name instead of snmp index number? We really need that :-) Actual implementation of this feature is not usable on large networks :-/

    Thanks a lot.

      Hi.
I just followed official documentation and experimented a little while on it.
      - First i created new template for mikrotik devices (they're all similar to each other and have from 1 to 9 ethernet ports + 1 to 5 wireless card ports)
      - Then in this template i created new discovery rule, taken straight from docs: http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...evel_discovery - par 3.3 - "Discovery of SNMP OID's".
      - After that (and like 1-2 mins of waiting) zabbix discovered all interfaces on my MT device - be it eth or wlan or even vlan - and named them.. well, whatever.
      - then i added two item prototypes (just like the docs show) - make sure it's in the discovery rule you just created using ifDesc!
      - then i added one graph prototypes, with 'Graph for {#SNMPVALUE}' as it's name, again, in the same discovery rule.

That worked flawlessly and now it's just matter of adding new host and linking MT template to it, then waiting 3-5 mins and all the graphs i need are there...

If You still have trouble with it, please write, i'll try to add some screenshots.

Yes I know about this way, but problem is, that you are limited to - as you wrote:
"make sure it's in the discovery rule you just created using ifDesc"

I need to run discovery over ifAlias OID.

        I tryed explaint it here:
