    error after sql patched update for v2.0

    Hi,

    After I ran the mysql patch update, I checked the zabbix_server.log and I noticed below error:

    1287:20120607:092135.738 Database is down. Reconnecting in 10 seconds.
    1287:20120607:092145.739 [Z3001] connection to database 'zabbix' failed: [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
    1287:20120607:092145.739 Database is down. Reconnecting in 10 seconds.

    I remembered when I configure the database "zabbix", I was using the username zabbix to connect, not sure why now it said it try to using "root" @ "localhost"

    Could someone please tell me how to fix it?

    Thank you.

    After I reinstalled v1.8.13 and reverted the database, it works. Then, I upgrade to v2.0 and upgrade the mysql patch, i have the same error again:

    1287:20120607:092135.738 Database is down. Reconnecting in 10 seconds.
    1287:20120607:092145.739 [Z3001] connection to database 'zabbix' failed: [1045] Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
    1287:20120607:092145.739 Database is down. Reconnecting in 10 seconds.

    Please advise.

          That error looks like you're trying to connect as root without a password. What does your zabbix_server.conf indicate for a database username and password?

          Did you compile Zabbix from source or install binaries? Note the new location of the config file, unless you specified otherwise:

            Hi dougbee,

            Thanks for your reply. In the zabbix_server.conf, I'm using the following setting:

            DBName=zabbix
            DBUser=zabbix
            DBPassword=xxxxx

            So I assume it should be using zabbix@localhost instead, right?

            I complied from source. I looked at the https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../upgrade_notes before but still couldn't figure out why.

            Please advise.

            Thanks
            Ricky

              The strange thing is, I was able to use to the same exact zabbix_server.conf to a server running the 1.8.14 version and it is running fine.

              I just have a problem when upgrade it to a test machine to version 2.0.1 and it gives me this error.

                If you compiled and *did not* specify something like "--sysconfdir=/etc/zabbix" then odds are zabbix is now looking in /usr/local/etc:

                1.5 Changed default configuration directories

                configuration files location

                /etc/zabbix → /usr/local/etc (depends on compile-time installation variable sysconfdir)

                Where is your current zabbix_server.conf with the proper credentials?

                  Oh, I was just copied the /etc/zabbix/zabbix_server.conf from the server running 1.8.14 to test server running 2.0.1. Is that a problem?

                    That depends; if you did not specify "--sysconfdir=/etc/zabbix" when you compiled the 2.0.1 server, you may need to copy the file to /usr/local/etc/zabbix_server.conf ..

                      Could you please where can I find the zabbix_server.conf from the source? It used to be at /zabbix-x.x.x/misc/conf/, but no longer there under /zabbix-2.0.1/misc/, I couldn't find the conf directory.

                        I see. When I complied, I used below syntax:

                        ./configure -enable-server -prefix=/usr/local/zabbix -with-mysql -with-net-snmp -with-libcurl -with-openipmi

                        So I should copy the zabbix_server.conf to /usr/local/zabbix instead of /usr/local/etc?

                          I *think* prefix only specifies where the binaries go. The config would still be under:
                          /usr/local/etc/zabbix_server.conf

                            I just copied zabbix_server.conf to /usr/local/zabbix and /usr/local/etc/ but when I start the zabbix server, same result, I see the same error message....
