    Zabbix upgrade from 1.6.4 to 2.0.0

    Hi all

    This is my first post here and I am an avid user and follower of Zabbix; so really hoping I can get some advice on a task.

    I need to upgrade my Zabbix system from 1.6.4 to 2.0.0 but the system is counted as production and I cannot lose any data, downtime must be minimal.

    Has anyone here upgraded from this version and would you mind sharing steps you took to achieve it, I expect that there are cosmetic frontend changes, binary changes but what I am most worried about is DB schema changes that maybe incompatible with my version or may cause adverse affects.

    I need to keep all of my data in the DB (Postgresql 8.1.17) without loss.

    Any advice / recommendations would be much appreciated

    I was thinking of building a new machine but I really want to avoid that and if possible simply upgrade my existing deployment.

    Thanks

    * don't try it first on your production system...
    * upgrade to 1.8 then to 2.0
    * test test and retest your procedure...
    * if you can afford to louse historical data, migrate only you configuration in a new system, upgrade agents so they send data to both systemes (if 1.6.4 can get data from newer agents), retire the old system.
    * did i mention to test test and retest ?

    other option, pay someone from zabbix SIA to do it for you (I'm not affiliated)

      Thanks ghoz

      I didn't know that version 1.6.4 can accept data from the newer agents, can anyone confirm this as that would be a good way to do this.

      Build a second system at version 2.0 and upgrade all agents to send data to both systems.
