Chceking is host alive

Hi
in zabbix 1,8 and 1,6 was very helpful item like status. That item allow to monitor is host is reachable or not. Is there any similar function in zabbix 2.0?

Im asking becouse now im using agent.ping and this isent the bast way to check is host alive

Why isn't that the best method? I can't think of a better way than a ping.

Becouse i saw zabbix 1.6.1 and there was item and triger lik that:
{BOS-IPSEC:status. last( 0 ) }=2
When machine or zabbix agentd goes down whole line of triggers goes to "unknown state".
But when im using agent.ping, and machine or zabbix agent goes down the whole line of triggers goes to red and im getting ~30mails.
How to make some relation between thous triggers?
Im asking becouse my collegue form work made this in old zabbix instance without using "Dependends"
.The problem is i cant ask him, becouse he isent working right now with me.
