how to add custom item in zabbix graph

Hi, I want to monitor how many user who connected to zabbix server using the graph. Can someone tell me :

1. how to create a script to do that ?
2. How to add/setting the script so it can used as an item in zabbix graph ?

Hi,
Why would you want to do this in a script when this is a one-off exercise? Just add the graph to your zabbix server template and you're away. Using the api is overkill and not a good utilization of time.
