Do Support Staff Help Out Here? Still cant start zabbix?

I just compiled and tried to start the 1.1 beta9 zabbix_server process on an RHES4 system and mysql 4.1.10, bit it doesnt seem to want to start? Have also tried on a fresh RHES3 system, with the same results?

I am trying to run either with su or logged in as another user, but this is the message I get

    root@penguin:/usr/local/bin# su stork ./zabbix_server
./zabbix_server: ./zabbix_server: cannot execute binary file
    root@penguin:/usr/local/bin#

    Permissions seem fine:

root@penguin:/usr/local/bin# ls -la | grep zabbix
    drwxr-xr-x 2 zabbix zabbix 4096 May 8 10:45 zabbix
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 184177 May 8 12:50 zabbix_agent
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 252129 May 8 12:50 zabbix_agentd
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 20396 May 8 12:50 zabbix_get
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 29758 May 8 12:50 zabbix_sender
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 1569955 May 8 12:50 zabbix_server
    root@penguin:/usr/local/bin# su zabbix zabbix_server
zabbix_server: zabbix_server: cannot execute binary file
    root@penguin:/usr/local/bin#

And nothing gets logged to /tmp/zabbix.log

Have you tried starting it without the 'su user' command in front of it? The zabbix binaries automatically assume the zabbix user when run.

Thanks everyone and I regret my choice of words. It was in no way meant to be negative. Rather, a pragmatic question to determine if the developers/owners/commercial side of Zabbix also monitor the forums. In my experience with products that have both a commercial and "free" or open-source product, or with tiered support, most demonstrate different levels of commitment to their "free" side. My question was not meant to critisize, only to understand/decide if I needed to purchase support at this early stage, or whether the mainline support staff also make contributions to the forums, like with the Scalix groupware product. So I apologize for any offence that my question generated, it was not intended.

Now back to the problem at hand, have tried "su someuser" have tried as root, have compiled as another user (not root) and always exactly the same results "cannot execute binary file" very strange indeed.

Maybe, if someone has some binaries compiled on RHES4, you could send them to me and I could try them? I am running 2.6.9-34.ELsmp.

root@penguin:/usr/local/bin# ls -la | grep zabbix
              drwxr-xr-x 2 zabbix zabbix 4096 May 8 10:45 zabbix

              -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 252129 May 8 12:50 zabbix_agentd
              -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 20396 May 8 12:50 zabbix_get
              -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 29758 May 8 12:50 zabbix_sender
              -rwxr-xr-x 1 zabbix zabbix 1569955 May 8 12:50 zabbix_server
              root@penguin:/usr/local/bin# su zabbix zabbix_server
zabbix_server: zabbix_server: cannot execute binary file
              root@penguin:/usr/local/bin#

We do read all posts and at least respond to all serious issues.

Regarding you issue, can you start zabbix_server by user 'zabbix' or other user which compiled ZABBIX? Any errors?

Also, while asleep I thought of the following:

Does your server use SELinux or something? Is there something in /var/log/messages?

                  Furthermore: x86 of x64?

No errors or anything in syslog, and no matter which user I try to start with I get the same error

                    root@penguin:/usr/local/bin# su zabbix zabbix_server
zabbix_server: zabbix_server: cannot execute binary file
                    root@penguin:/usr/local/bin#

An selinux is disabled completly...very strange and system is x86 (Dual Athlon)

Can you give us the owner and group of the file? (ls -l /path/to/zabbix, probably /usr/local/bin)

What if you run zabbix_server directly under user zabbix without doing 'su'?
