    zabbix_proxy not fully passive in passive mode?

    Hello everybody,

    I'm trying to use a zabbix_proxy in passive mode.

    zabbix_server is on host A, subnet 1.
    zabbix_proxy is on host B, subnet 2. this proxy will collect informations for host B and C (also in subnet 2).

    subnet 1 and 2 are separated from a firewall.

    to avoid open flow between subnet 1 and 2, I open a ssh connection through autossh:

    autossh -M0 -q -f -N -i /home/rilemre/.ssh/id_dsa -p 22 -L 11050:localhost:10050 user@hostB

    without zabbix_proxy, I'm able to collect in passive mode all required informations from host B.
    But since I've install zabbix_proxy, I do not collect anymore some informations from host B (and host C): when I check zabbix_proxy log, I have the following content: I saw the that proxy try to connect to server:
    4494:20120802:174345.460 Starting Zabbix Proxy. Zabbix 1.8.2 (revision 11211).

    zabbix_proxy is configured with the following content:
    Code:
    # zabbix server location. (host A)
    # should not be used in passive mode
    Server=aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
    ServerPort=10051
    # Unique hostname.
    Hostname=hostb_proxy
    #SourceIP=
    # avoid listing only on local ip to be able to receive also notification from host c
    #ListenIP=127.0.0.1
    ListenPort=10050
    # passive mode!
    ProxyMode=1
    in zabbix server, zabbix proxy in menu administration > dm like:

    name: hostb_proxy
    type: passive
    ip adress: 127.0.0.1
    port: 11050
    proxies hosts: B
    (C is not yet defined)

    it seems that this proxy is well known from zabbix_server:

    - Last seen (age): 2s
    - Host count: 1 (host C has not yet configured)
    - Items count: 200
    - Required performance (vps): 4,35

    Host B is defined like this in the zabbix_server:

    - dns name: hostb_proxy
    - ip adress: 127.0.0.1
    - port: 10052
    - monitored by proxy: hostB
    - status: monitored

    My questions are the following ones:

    - Why proxy try to connect to server? is it for synchronise configuration? in this case, is it possible that zabbix_server push configuration instead of proxy fetch it?
    - Does hostB ip adress definition is used when host is monitored through proxy? this ip is the ip known by proxy or by server?

    please help, I'm a quite bit lost

    Your proxy needs to send responses back to the server.

    Try opening a second ssh tunnel back to the server from the proxy machine, consider opening a port on your firewall between the two servers, or move the server into the vlan being monitored.
