Zabbix 2.0 - zabbix_agent cofiguration

Hello,

I'm configuring zabbix agents and I find in docu information:

Item Server is not mandatory. (http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/.../zabbix_agentd)

For what purpose this item is not mandatory?

There is information how to configure more servers for one monitored host. But I'm wondering what happens when items SERVER and ACTIVE SERVER will be emtpy in configuration file of zabbix agentd?
