Ping check and snmp check question

    Hi.

    I've just launched a Zabbix 2.0 Appliance.
I've configured some windows and linux host, using the windows and linux agent.
After that, I have added some snmp devices (v1 & 2c) using the snmp templates located in this site.

Now I have troubles trying to add some non Zabbix agent/non smnp devices, like a switch without snmp support, but with an ip management address. Like a
    "SF 200-24 24-Port 10/100 Smart Switch".

I tried to add an item, to use a simple check rule to ping the device and a trigger to check that info, but I'm pretty lost with this task.

My first doubt is that Zabbix required to define an agent type while creating the host. But It is not a Zabbix or snmp agent. I can't left blank any of these fields. What kind of agent should I set in this step ?

I've created and item to set a "simple check", using a key "icmpping[<ip>,<count>,<interval>,<size>,<timeout>]"
I have save the item inside a template and I have assigned the template to the switch. After some time I can see this error message in the item configuration.
"number of packets [<count>] is not between 1 and 10000"
I have set the agent to snmp agent and I'm receiving time out warnings, because that switch does not have snmp support.

Taking advantage of this post I have Another question.
I can see a green icon in Zabbix, telling me that snmp communication has been established between the server and my devices.
But in the case of the "SF 200-24" I can see the red icon, but I can't see any warning in the dashboard.
I'm not interesting in that switch (it does not have snmp support).
But I will have the same issue if any other switch (with snmp support) goes down. I think I need to add a trigger to check if the snmp communication goes down.

    Regards
    Sigfrid
