Zabbix is generating a lot of dns requests

I have the same issue, I upgraded from a compliled version with no IPv6 support to the stock RPM. Will try the source rpm with IPv6 disabled.

Ideally would like to just use the stock rpm's though

We had exactly the same issue, after diagnostics and dumps smoking we found out that these requests are reverse lookups on every agent connection attempt to server.
It seems like hardcoded behavior https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...work_discovery "When adding hosts, a host name is the result of reverse DNS lookup or IP address if reverse lookup fails.", so one possible solution is to install DNS caching service on Zabbix server (by default there is no DNS cache in linux, at least in my distribution).
