    Remote Agents

I am really struggling to find an answer to my question as yet.

Can the agent just call home rather than having to have 2 way connections. Main reason why is if you have 30 desktops behind a NAT router you won't be able to connect to them.

Does the Zabbix agent work this way?

Yes, what you are talking about can be done.

You need to set all the items you want to monitor to "Zabbix Agent (Active)". With this, the device you are monitoring will contact Zabbix for configuration information and then send the collected data back to Zabbix. Connections will be desktop to zabbix server and work through the nat firewall.

You must install the Zabbix agent and make sure that active monitoring is configured correctly in the configuration file and on the server.

PS: Eventually look into setting up a zabbix proxy behind the NAT firewall on the same network as the 30 desktops. The proxy can collect all the data from the workstation and then forward to the main zabbix server. The proxy also then allows the other item types to work like SNMP, PING, etc.

      He's right on that.

The key to an active agent working is to be sure that zabbix_agentd.conf file (In the Hostname= field) has the same host name spelling, including case sensitive, as to the host name that you have entered in Zabbix server frontend.

If you make changes to the host config, remember to restart the agent process.

        Hi,

Does Zabbix support that all zabbix proxy servers (I have 7 proxy servers) will send from source NAT ?

        Thanks !

          Yes, it does.
Also you can go further - use the configuration with one Zabbix Server, plus some Zabbix Proxy (Active), plus a lot of Zabbix Agent (active)

In that case all Agents can be behind the NAT and all Zabbix Proxy can be behind the different NAT.

Double NAT. Double protection of Zabbix Agent's from Zabbix Server.
          Sincerely yours,
          Aleksey

              Hi,
              More questions,

can Active Proxy working in Active-Active ? I have VIP -> 2 VM's of Proxy servers

how the connection "host - active proxy - server" is working ?
*who is open connection ? and does connection stay open during the time or reopen every time that need to forward data ?
I have agent, agent active, trapper monitors type defined in templates

if Zabbix WEB UI installed on separate server from zabbix server, can it work in Active-Active ?
              Thanks a lot !
