Unable to ping standalone servers

I have several non-Unix servers and other network devices which I need to monitor only their presence on my network via icmpping and particular service ports. I am able to ping Unix hosts but unable to ping hosts which use the host.standalone template. I have verified the location of fping and confirmed that using fping from a command line I am able to reach the servers and devices, however in the latest values for the host there is no values in Last Check or Last Values. The other service checks do report values (ie SMTP, FTP, HTTP, etc) but not the Ping to the server. I know that there have been other threads in the past concerning such things but I was unable to find any resolution based on the information found within those threads. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

is it possible that those devices drop al ping packets,

what type of devices are we talking about
