How to nominate bugs for upcomming versions

What is the best way of nominating/escalating/voting on bugs so it gets visible to the contributors that there are more users experiencing certain problems??
Reason I ask is because during my so far brief encounter with zabbix it appears that at least some of bug which which doesn't get any attention for 2-3 years yet appear yet they appears as copy/paste answers for users asking in the forums
One example is the problem of when a metric (item) goes from working state (ACTIVE) to not working (NOT SUPPORTED) there is no way to catch this and get alerted. To me this is very fundamental of a monitoring solution, to get alerted when something breaks, yet this has received little to no attention since first reported in 2009
So I ask, how to get such things to the attention of the right people??
