    Please help with setup

I am trying to set up Zabbix. I am using this http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...lation/install. I am trying to install the frontend. However when I type in the address into the URL using http://ipaddress/zabbix, (Using my ip of sever) I get this error "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to (My IP).

What am I doing wrong? I am using AWS and is there anything I need to configure that I am missing. Thanks so much for your help.

You have Apache up and running? (http or httpd)
You have given the correct permissions and ownership to the php frontend files for Zabbix to access them?

You can always take a look at the Apache logs and see what those have to say.

You have zabbix.conf.php put in the correct place?
Make sure it is in your conf directory off of your /var/www/html path.

In my case, it is in /var/www/html/zabbix/conf/zabbix.conf.php
Yours is more than likely /var/www/html/conf/

Might try a different browser also and see if it gives a different (more specific) error. I like FireFox, myself.

      PHP xmlwriter/xmlreader

Thanks, I had to copy the php files over. I can now access the web interface. I am now working on getting all the fails fixed. I have to fail's left.

      PHP xmlwriter
      PHP xmlreader

Where do I find these? And how do I get them to install. I managed to yum install all the others and fix the others by editing the php.ini file. I tried to yum install php xmlwriter/xmlreader, but no package was found in the repository.

      Thanks.

I figured out the xml part. I actually had to yum install xml and it installed the appropriate files. Now it is all green.

Now on the next screen "Configure DB Connection.

        I have:
        DB type- MySQL
        Database host- localhost
        Database port- 0
        Database name- zabbix
        User- zabbix
Password- (Password I set for zabbix user)

I get the following error when testing connection. "mysql_connect():Access denied for user 'zabbix'@localhost' (using password: YES)

What am I doing wrong? I have a database made called zabbix on the box. And a user named zabbix.

Figured out the connection issue, I had to-

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO zabbix@localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'zabbix-password'

          Retried it and connection worked.

I downloaded the conf file and saved it to the /conf

Finished the installation successfully. However on the next step for logging in it says the login is Admin and the password is zabbix, but it won't let me type anything in the user/password area. It says this in red above-

mysql_free_result() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given [include/db.inc.php:570]

What do I do? Thanks again for all of your help.

            I found this thread- http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28274

That is related to my question. However I am using the latest zabbix version. 2.0.3

I couldn't create the schema, because the templates are not included in this version. I have already completed the installation. I really don't want to do a fresh install.

What do I do? And where and how do I get the schema? And where do I put it? Please help. Thanks again for all the help.

Huh? What is your installation? Did you compile the source yourself, or did you get it somewhere else?

I am trying an older version of Zabbix that has the schemas. I am now at the 'make' step. I get this far, and get this error-

                /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
                make[3]: *** [zabbix_server] Error 1
                make[3]: Leaving directory `/root/zabbix-1.1.7/src/zabbix_server'
                make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
                make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/zabbix-1.1.7/src/zabbix_server'
                make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
                make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/zabbix-1.1.7/src'
                make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1

I have yum installed mysql. Anything else I need? I don't remember getting this the first time I did this successfully. Also I using zabbix 1.7.1

                Thanks.

This is where I got the latest version of Zabbix. http://sourceforge.net/projects/zabb...ar.gz/download

The create directory is not in the zabbix 2.0.3 directory. This has also been reported by other users- http://www.zabbix.com/forum/printthread.php?t=6327

Where is the pre-built schema in 2.0.3? I still have this instance up and running. I made another one with 1.7.1 since it had the schemas. I am now running into the /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient when trying to make.

Suggestions? Thanks again for all of your help. It is greatly appreciated. =)

Ok I dug through the folders and found the pre built schemas here- zabbix-2.0.3/database/mysql

However since I already ./configured and make installed is it too late to make the schemas?

I am so glad I didn't delete the first instance with zabbix installed. I deleted the original table called zabbix, then I recreated it using the schema, images and data. Refreshed the zabbix login page and I am now able to log into the dashboard!

I am going to try to figure out how to set this up now. Any suggestions to make it easier?

That will be fine. DB is a separate animal from the frontend.

Also can the instance I have the server on also have the agent? I am trying this for test purposes and to run a demo. Thanks.

Of course you can have an agent running on the Zabbix server.
