We are an organization that has several remote branches using a standard company wide ERP system. I am at the HO where we have a Lexmark E460dn that is the single most important printer in the whole company. Why? Because all branch printing relies on this one printer to print their ERP print jobs which actually get printed out at the relevant branch which submitted the print job. Essentially you can think of it as router but for a printer.
I am supposed to be the zabbix expert in our team but alas I have so much still to learn.
I want to be able to monitor this printer using SNMP v1,2 and I can easily get MIBS & OIDs for this printer to use in zabbix. In zabbix and the version we are using is 2.0.0 if I want to create an SNMP item for an OID the field automatically populates with interface.ifTable.ifEntry.1
I can understand where this is coming from. It is basically using the interface MIB. That's fine I can use this to create a few items and triggers. However if I want to create items to do with host MIBS as opposed to interface MIBS I can't or am I right in saying zabbix doesn't allow for this and only uses interface MIBS hence populates the field automatically. The host MIB has most of the interesting things I would like to create items for and configure triggers.
How can this be achieved.
