Use of logrt in log file monitor causing high cpu

I am monitoring a log file on a RHEL5 box with this key: logrt["/apps/home/air/logs/infra.log.*.log","java.lang.OutOfMemoryError",,100]

when I enable this item the cpu on the box jumps from 1 or 2% up to over 50%. Does anyone have a suggestion?
