How to Setup Automatic Host Inventory?

I added several Items for my Automatic Host Inventory, and they seem to be linked because I see them on the inventory screen. But the data is not populating. What could be wrong? Do I need a trigger also?

I used the items from this page:
    http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...sts/inventory/
    Like: system.hw.cpu

    Thanks!!!

For that to work, when configuring a host the inventory mode in the Host inventory tab must be set to Automatic.
    See: Inventory

Had overlooked it too at the first time :-)

Yeah, that's why I'm confused. It's already set for Automatic!

Summing up that comes to mind:
        • host is enabled for monitoring by Zabbix agent
        • host has got an enabled item with key 'system.hw.cpu'
        • the item gets regulary values and has no errors
        • this item is configured to populate a host inventory field
        • host inventory is set to 'Automatic'
        • the item name is listed right beside the inventory field on the host inventory form
        • There is no host listed on Inventory::Hosts (pay attention to select a proper group)

          Mostly that checklist is correct.
I did find, however, that the 'item' status says 'not supported'.
If I click it, it will change to 'Enabled' but then fail back to 'not supported' later.
Also, my 4 test-hosts DO appear in the Inventory > Hosts menu.. Should I remove them? IDK why this is so tricky.

Thanks a lot for your help BD!!

            No, you shouldn't.
I just wanted to make sure that it isn't working already. Having the hosts listed is the expected result.

Does there have to be a 'Trigger' to make this work properly?
              Maybe that's my problem?

Ok. I think I found my answer here:
Automatic host inventory - only for Linux?

Why would this be so complicated for Windows Agents?
Kind of crazy! This really ought to be in the Documentation!

Ok. I think I have it working.
I'll report back when I can explain my fix.

Here is what I had to do for my Windows Agent to work properly:

Create a network Service account for the Zabbix Agent
Give him NTFS rights to the share location of the .vbs scripts.
Install the 'Zabbix Agent' and use 'Log On As' account:

Change the .conf file to include:
                    • Timeout=15
                    • ServerActive=10.x.x.x (IP to your Zabbix Server)
                    • UserParameter=specHWShort,cscript.exe /nologo \\10.x.x.x\myzabbixshare\specHWShort.vbs

And of course, Check out these great threads:
