    Active versus Passive

Quick question on the using items with either Zabbix Agent or Zabbix Agent (Active). If I set the Update Interval on two items, 1 of each type to say 300seconds, and I set the RefreshActiveChecks value on the box to 120 seconds, will the data for the Active Item update every 120 seconds or does it make use of the Update Interval?

'RefreshActiveChecks' control the interval, the agent downloads all configured active checks for that host.
Setting RefreshActiveChecks affects when the agent will notice item changes (new, modified or deleted items). If set to 120 would mean that it could take for example up to 120 seconds untill the agent monitors a new created item.

The update interval controls the time between collecting data -regardless if active or passive

Thanks for this, that makes sense to me. Another quick question on this. I've created a number of hosts which all point to the same machine, the problem is that if I try and set Active Items for these they don't get picked up as they have a different name than the one specified in the configuration file. Is there any way to get the Agent to retrieve checks for multiple hosts pointing to the same machine.

The reason for the multiple machines is for semantic purposes internally when monitoring data but may be open to change if the above is not possible.
