    Site to site monitoring

    Hi all,

For the last week I've been thinking about a possible solution to monitor different devices at customer locations.

There seem to be various solutions to this problem all though I have no idea which is best suited?

    - The client locations are not big enough to set up a proxy.
    - At the client locations different network components are being used.
    (primarily cisco)
    - The monitoring data has to go over the internet, so it has to be encrypted somehow.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Tou could go for site-to-site ipsec tunnels between your local site and the customers. That way traffic gets encrypted.

I'd rather go for a solution with proxies though.
Just run them in a VM on the remote site and use stunnel, ssh tunnels or spiped (http://www.tarsnap.com/spiped.html) to connect back to the central zabbix server.
    With kind regards,

    Raymond

      Thank you for your reply,

I've found the same solution(s) on google but I wasn't sure which one to go with.

The IPsec tunnel seems best suited in this situation, as I want to send SNMP and Syslog data through the tunnel. This way I don't have to run SNMPv3 in combination with stunnel but I can just run the ipsec tunnel.

Setting up a VM at the client's end is just not worth it. In most cases I'm looking to monitor just a handful of devices.

      Sincerely,

      John
