    Zabbix integration with SCOM??

    Hello everybody.

I was curious to know if everyone here has some experience with integrating Zabbix in a SCOM environment.

Is there any way to "replicate" Zabbix information in SCOM to be able to use the SCOM reporting agent?

Is there a way to "replicate" SCOM information in Zabbix?

Is there a way to make "cross-acknowledgment" from one system to the other?

Or do both system have to run totally separated?

    Thank you for your help

      Hi!
SCOM - System Center Operations Manager, it's monitoring system from Microsoft.
Zabbix and SCOM imo do similar (almost same) things.
So why do you want integrate it? For what?
It's bad idea, i think. It sounds like "How to integrate Linux to Windows?".

I think the OP wants a single dashboard to view the status of all systems. We use both SCOM and Zabbix but I've yet to develop a cohesive solution.

I believe it's much easier to create custom items/metrics in Zabbix versus SCOM (this is based on minor exploration, nothing significant) so you might want to use IT Services in Zabbix to represent your overall site health.

That could comprise of the systems you are already monitoring in Zabbix, but then selectively choose monitors from SCOM and query them programatically. You might have items to represent the overall health of Active Directory DCs and represent those in Zabbix, and if there's a problem continue to use SCOM to examine the issue.

But replicating the full dataset from either platform in the other would likely be a horrific experience.

          Hi all,
Sorry to rescue this issue long ago but my company wants to integrate these two apps that currently living apart in our systems.

The reasons for this are, above all, dashboards providing microsoft tool that are more advanced (and pretty) than zabbix do. Although personally I prefer the way of configuring zabbix monitorings and all the technical issues against scom with their Management Packs. But, but, but... I recognize that the visual part of the microsoft tool is better that provided by zabbix

Has anyone already integrated these two systems?
Is necessary to develop some interface above the two tools?
          Any other ideas?

          Thank you very much!

Hello, you can do it with help of orchestrator (it is part of System Center). For SCOM part, you can use Create Alert activity from System Center Integration Pack. For Zabbix part, you can used JSON-RPC. Working solution is described hier: https://wininframaster.blogspot.sk/2...m-console.html

                Best regards

                Martin

Replication of alarms from SCOM to Zabbix should be easily achievable with using Zabbix sender utility and a powershell script on SCOM server side.

                Main points of such integration:
                1. PowershellScript stored on SCOM server. It will be called by SCOM, and will receive alert ID of new or closed alarm as an argument. Script will pull all desired information from SCOM(server with error name, alarm description, severity, etc) and will invoke Zabbix sender to deliver such info to Zabbix server.
                2. In SCOM you will need to setup new command notification channel, subscriber and subscription. It will call said above script and pass Alarm ID to it for processing.
                3. Zabbix server you configure based on your requirements. It can go as little as catching a single alarm type or as wide as parsing different info from received information into trigger tags, using trigger and global event correlation etc.

Such integration does work, with few tweaks here and there. Possible issue encountered with such approach - suppressed events in SCOM. As SCOM will not send notification about suppressed event and, as such, you will not receive info about repeating issues of already active alert and will have single Problem in Zabbix.

P.S. It's possible to advance this solution by creating SCOM outbound connector, but I'm not ready to provide steps to implement it as of yet.
