    Parsing Text From An Item

Is there a way in Zabbix to parse text from the last value of a text item and store it in another item or display it on a Map. I am pulling the Bootstrap version from a Cisco device and it is returning the following: "System Bootstrap, Version 11.1(20)AA2, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)".

I want to parse out "Version 11.1(20)AA2" for display and/or storage. I am somewhat of a novice user but do understand a little about strings, substrings, etc.

Is there a way to do this or do I ascertain from the web searches I've done that it might not be possible?

    Thank You...

Not yet. But watch out for LUA support:
    Zabbix Lua Master Ticket (ZBXNEXT-1444)

    In particular:
Ability to transform item values before they are processed and stored to DB (ZBXNEXT-1443)

This might allow to store a sub-string of a determined value and if LUA support gets implemented in calculated items as well, one could do this eventually based on an existing item.

Thank you for your reply. Really look forward to the capability to manipulate textual data once it is captured. Ever since I taught myself to program dBase on a Commodore 64 those many years ago, the ability to manipulate string data has been there. What is the best avenue to monitor to know when this is available?

Again, thank you for your reply.

Any update on this? Can this be done with a calculated item?
