special possibilities of zabbix compare with others

    Hello,

I'm a student and I'll present a zabbix installation as projectwork for the Network-Administration subject. The prof gave us the task to present different networkmanagemet-software and i choose zabbix. (he is looking for a new software to controll our university IT)

I got zabbix running on my debian Linux and have an agent installed on suse linux. That works fine. My next goal will be to get a Windows agent running and possibly use SNMP.

As i'm not in the condition to test all the nice features of zabbix on my own, can you please give me a hint on some installations which are special on zabbix nice and usefull (i want to present zabbix in the best light against nagios etc). I hope this is the right place to ask for such examples.

    Thanks a lot - Christian

one of the biggest benefits i've come across here is the screens capabilities... the ability to move around in time and view a multitude of stats all on one page is something that is surprisingly hard to find in monitoring equipment.

As far as compared to Nagios... the simplicity of zabbix is overwhelming... i worked with Nagios for a while and got so frustrated with how #@$&!@ hard they make that thing to configre/manipulate... zabbix, i installed in seconds and had it up and running clean...

And lastly, the extensibility of zabbix is easier than anything i have ever seen... i can redesign the frontend if i want... i can add any metric i want simply by writing the command into a file (and i think it's even easier than that now that the system.run[] command is built)...

I'd say those are the big three for me... monitoring 3000+ metrics across 300 servers is a big task, and Zabbix handles it very very well...
