    active agents without interface specifications

Is it possible to specfiy a host which does not have an associated "interface" defined for it? This is an active agent only host and thus will not accept incoming connectoins. If I put an interface it gives a little red Z icon in the host display (I'd like to get rid of this indicator since it seems like something is wrong when it shows it).

I have this same issue, it is receiving information successfully from the agent via active checks but there is still a red zabbix icon. I've change all discovery and items in the template to active only.

I don't know why we even need to configure an interface for hosts that have active agents.

I thought I had the same problem, but the red icon went away when I filled in the agent interface with a legitimate IP address. When the icon was red, it was because I had been using just 127.0.0.1 as a dummy, since I don't really have a passive interface.

Hi ! What you mean by legitimate IP address? I'm having the same issue, but the host I'm monitoring only has a private IP address, so zabbix server will not be able to reach the server by ? Any idea? Thank you!

Showing Green or Grayed out Zabbix Agent

            Hi Bruno,
By legitimate IP address, I meant a host agent IP address that can be reached by the server. If you don't have one that can be reached from the server at all, then you must be using active only. You might try making sure you've configured your agent's StartAgents parameter to 0, which should turn off passive. Please let us know if you get it to work.

              Hi Bbhowerter,

thank you for your prompt reply! I just setup the zabbix agent with "StartAgents=0" (and restarted it), but the zabbix server still shows a red icon, as it tries to conect to the host interface. I tried by deleting and adding the host on zabbix server, with the same result.

I have to clarify that most of the hosts I have on this server are using passive mode to reach the agents, I only have 4 hosts that will be monitored with a custom template with all the items set as type "zabbix Agent Active". Do you know if there's a way to explicitly indicate to the server that a host will be monitored actively?

              Thank you,
              Kind Regards!
              Bruno

                Why is the Icon Red?

When you hover over the icon does it show an error message?

In your case, the icon should be gray. I suspect that you have an item defined as 'zabbix agent' as opposed to 'zabbix agent (active)'. In configuration/hosts, click on the host, then click on the items, and set the type filter to 'zabbix agent' to see if any show up.

I don't think there is any one explicit setting to indicate an agent is passive or active, just the implied settings of StartAgents for passive and ServerActive for active.

And year is 2022 and I still don't understand why we have to have zabbix interface described or it will refuse to create the host. It is not possible to put a valid interface for Active mode zabbix agents with dynamic ip.
