How to monitor a remote network through VPN?

I like to expand my monitoring into some small customer networks of mine.

I usually have a very small machine (thin client, 4GB CF-Disk, 256MB RAM, Debian 6.0) in their network. Those little machines connects to my VPN hub from where I can reach them.

Due to the fact that most of the clients network are on 192.168.0.x I have to create a temporary route over the VPN to there, do my maintenance and delete the route.

How can I monitor such networks? I can install a zabbix agent on the little VPN machine but its impossible to store a database.

I guess I need some kind of Zabbix proxy. Can someone give me a pointer?

there is a part of zabbix called "Zabbix Proxy" that does what it sounds like you want. it can monitor stuff on remote network and cache all the data. If you have your Zabbix server periodically connect to it, the server could retrieve all the data and not miss anything
