Graphs not showing accurate data in terms of bandwidth (Octets/multipliers)

I love Zabbix and I finally understand the interface and setups, but one thing that bugs me is the data collected from Cisco switches using octets is not showing the correct bandwidth being passed in and out and I dont know what multiplier or time interval to use to get it to show the correct data.

I have tried to use the formula on Cisco's website, but then I do not know how to enter the correct time interval for data collection and what multiplier to give it to show accurate data.

I've been tackling this for 3 weeks.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Do you have the "Store as" value for the item set to Delta - speed per second?

Also, are you using the 64bit high capacity counter for Gigabit interfaces?

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have the "Store Value" set to Delta (speed per second).

I have 2 ports using the gigabit ports, but I could not locate the 64-bit high capacity counter. I looked through the snmp walk and couldn't find it.

I have 46 other ports using just fast_ethernet ports and they still are incorrect.

Thanks again for your reply and look forward to your responses.

Some of the other posts I looked back through where they are monitoring switch ports, the were using the multiplier of 8 with the units being bps.

That's about all the info I can give you... I am not monitoring any switches.

Yeah, I had just read that too. Thank you for your time.

Can I keep this open for now to see if some other user may have experienced this?

I am testing right now using 8 for multiplier / 30 sec interval / set it to "bps"

I'll see how it goes. Previously, I had it set to the same as above, but using 300sec interval.

Yeah, there is no "closing" these threads. Post to it any time you like.

This weekend i was doing some throughput testing on a new NAS using a bunch of clients to provoke loading. I was seeing 80-100MB/sec for each of the 8-10 clients via iftop but according my Zabbix graphs for the switch port that the NAS was connected to (10GbE), max BW was on somewhere in the range of 140MB/sec. I'm polling ifOctets (in/out) which are analogous (afaik) to Bytes (8 bits/octet = byte) and storing as delta per/second data. No multiplier used in the port ifOctet Items. Any ideas anyone?

                  ifOctets then multiplier 8.

A multiplier of 8 will result in bits. Octets are functionally bytes. The issue seems to be, unless someone can demonstrate where i am misapprehending, is with how Zabbix integrates data as deltas when the sample period is greater than 1 sec/sample.

In the tests i was writing about, throughput was solid for around 10 minutes as seen at the clients, so octets-bps integration should have been free of variations that would throw the delta off.
