Virtual Appliance and 3G modem for SMS alerts

Is it possible in any way to get the Zabbix virtual appliance and a 3G USB modem working for sending SMS alters?
I think it can be only solved when using an additional physical client where the 3G USB modem can be plugged in.
Has anyone tried this already?

I´m using Hyper-V...

For me the steps I have to implement are the following:

1.Setup a SMS Gateway server (I would use gnokii)
2.Connect a 3g UMTS modem to the server and test it
3.Configure zabbix to use a script for sms alerts sending over the sms gateway server
