How to avoid templates duplication (active vs passive)

    Hi,

I am interested if there is a way to avoid template duplication (the same template for active agent and one identical template for passive agent). I started recently with active agents and I noticed this issue.

I find the situation very annoying as every single update applied to an item by example should be made to both templates...

It looks odd to have basically the same config duplicated just because of one signle setting.

You want to apply two identical items (the only difference is in the type of the item - Zabbix agent / Zabbix agent (active)) to one host? Or I misunderstood you?
In what situation this solution is necessary? Maybe there is a simpler solution...

      Hi Heilig,

I have both hosts with active agents and hosts with passive agents.

What I don't like is I need to create separated templates for active agents and separated for passive agents.

I on the contrary like this feature in zabbix. Create a template and apply to the right hosts, what could be easier?
But you can create this future request on https://support.zabbix.com (ZABBIX FEATURE REQUESTS project).

Having to create separated templates for active and passive agent (templates with exactly same functionality) and keep them in sync for any change is not quite optimal.
