At the risk of being { { FLAMED } } here goes..

I purchased the Zabbix book from PACKT publishing, not bad but useless as we are using a 2.0.6 client side and 2.0.3 on the server side. Mucho differences in from the version covered in the book (1.8) , vs 2.x.

In any event, I am having trouble grasping some of the very basic concepts of Zabbix and what makes it go bang in the night.

I have built out several test VMs ( Virtual Box ) and tried to get the server side to monitor them. Once I add the hosts, the agents are detected, but much of the output is completely skewed.

The uptime states 30+ plus of uptime, which is way off. The VMs at that time had only been up for 9 days.

The CPU load isn't reporting, and I have read about everything thread out there that I could find to no avail.

Is there a complete dummies guide out there or perhaps some quick and dirty reads out there that may help me along?

    Thanks,
    J

There's no flaming on here. This isn't that type of forum.

The folks who contribute here are generally very helpful and have gone through the learning curve just like you are experiencing.

There is no Dummies guide, but post specific problems you are having here, with as much configuration/error information as you can, and we'll try to help you figure things out.

First thing I would do if I were you, would be to get your Zabbix server up to the 2.0.6 level and see if that irons out any of your problems.

After that, tell us more about your setup where you are not seeing CPU load. What OS is that server? What error are you seeing for that item as listed under Configuration --> Hosts --> <list of items> --> hover your mouse over the red X all the way to the right in the error column and see what that is reporting.

      I did figure this out..

What it really boiled down to was getting port assignments correct in EC2. Thanks for your help!
