SNMP Traps not visible in Zabbix dashboard

    Hello,

Iv been trying to configure snmptraps in Zabbix. My vCenter server is able to send traps to my zabbix server regarding events like high memory usage, high cpu usage for ESXI servers . I see all the snmp traps getting logged in zabbix server under /var/log/messages ( which indicates zabbix is properly configured .) but the problem is that these traps are not visible in "Latest data" field of Zabbix.

Any help on this topic would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance,
    Justin.

    Hello ,

I have rectified the issue. But now i have another problem. The alert which gets displayed in the zabbix dashboard just displays a common message stating "Memory usage above 10 %", but it does not display the hostname assosciated with high memory usage.

Any guy monitoring this , would only know that there is high memory consumption on one of the ESXi host, but he wouldn't know on which ESXi host the memory consumption is high.

Could anyone tell me how the trigger should be configured so that it displays the hostname along with it.

    Thanks,
    Justin.

          Hi,

          Thanks for the reply.

I am quite unsure how to check if server has snmptt.

The problem i am facing now is that the vCenter server manages many ESXi hosts. The vCenter sends the traps in case an alarm is generated for any ESXi server.

So in Zabbix, i have created a single item i.e snmptraps with the hostname being that of the vCenter server. This item has one trigger associated with it ( for high memory usage ) .

As you see, the item and trigger are generic i.e for any trap sent for any ESXi, i have the same item and trigger.

So when an alert is displayed, it shows a generic message that "memory usage is high", but my requirement is that the trigger should automatically display the ESXi's hostname also in the alert.

          Thanks

          Justin

            Hello,

I have one snmptrap ITEM, in which i have used the hostname of the vCenter server i.e "vcent777.example.com" ( which is sending the traps. ).

But vCenter in turn is sending the traps for an ESXI host "esx777.example.com". So in the alert, i want to display the esxi hosts name i.e "esx777.example.com". and not the vcenter hostname that is used in the item.

Please help me to find a solution for this. I require this on urgent basis.

            Waiting for the reply.

            Regards,

            Justin
