    Having a hard time grasping triggers / events.

    I bought the book, it covers 1.8 which is different but I have been reading it anyway. I have been reading the manual on-line for 2.x, it helped a little, but there is nothing simple about way that Zabbix works. I almost doubled over with insane laughter when I read this section from the manual.

    <manual>
    Easy configuration

    * add monitored devices as hosts
    * hosts are picked up for monitoring, once in the database
    * apply templates to monitored devices
    </manual>

    With that said, does anyone have anything to suggest that might help people grasp how to create a mail alert, how triggers work, etc? I am still reading on and get it a little more with each passing attempt. Just thought I would throw this question out there while I "twerk".

    P.S. Yes, I do feel like an idiot for not being able to wrap my head around this. I do have the feeling that after a few Ah ha moments it will be crystal clear to me how it all works. Thanks in advance.

    I think you will find it much easier if you have at least a test installation to work with. Just reading the manual and the on-line documentation may make it tough to get a handle on it.

    Regarding e-mail alerts... there are a few essential settings to make it happen. Your question is very broad. have you attempted any part of the process?

    Basically, the way it works is that the monitored host sends data back to the Zabbix server, which then evaluates that data against trigger (alert) thresholds. If it meets the criteria for an alert, it sends an SMTP e-mail and also places a visual alert on the Zabbix dashboard.

    If you haven't implemented a Zabbix install yet, I highly recommend that you go with the latest available release, which is currently 2.0.6

      As it turns out..

      I am getting it a little more than I thought.. The alert e-mail address I had entered was failing, because the email address was wrong.
