    ZABBIX server is running -> No

    After I run shell "./zabbix_server"
    And receive this : "You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root"
    Go on control page and go to report I see that :
    ZABBIX server is running : No

    The server is still unavailable?

    hmm.. sounds like you need a little more help than a zabbix-specific forum can provide - I'd suggest a good systems adminstration or unix book first.

    There's many reasons the server won't startup, configuration is a tricky thing. I would check the log messages, i think it defaults to /var/log/zabbix_server.log

    As a basic check, ps -ef | grep zabbix ... (or ps -aux depending on OS)

      Mine starts in /tmp/zabbix_server.log, but yes: You should check your logs.

        003616:20060622:081909 server #4 started [Poller for unreachable hosts. SNMP:ON]

        These are the lastest from my log file.

        With "netstat -a" I saw that line :
        tcp 0 0 *:zabbix_trap *:* LISTEN

        That mean my server is running. But the service is not started I think. Look on service list I can't see that service. When I restart my computer, I have to run "./zabbix_server" again.

        So anyone could help me with this? How could I start it as a service?

        [root@ccthien ~]# ps -ef| grep zabbix

        root 6056 4371 0 10:34 pts/3 00:00:00 grep zabbix

        (ZABBIX server is running -> always NO).

        Thank you for your reply.

          zabbix_server is running.

          the problem may be in frontend.
          which OS do you use?

            see also http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showpost...0&postcount=10

            The GUI frontend tries to run the ps(1) command to find out whether the server is running.
            If this doesn't work for some reason (eg. web server runs chroot(2)ed, restrictive access controls to kernel info, etc) you'll get NO as answer, no matter if the server is running or not.

                I know this is an old thread but if you are having the same issue on a rhel type os, I disabled selinux then restarted httpd.

                eg.
                setenforce 0
                service httpd restart

                  FYI Status of Zabbix Server will be checked differently (i.e. more reliably) in 1.6.3. Stay tuned.

                    Hello!

                    I´m running into the same problem now. The frontend says "zabbix running = now". I´m running Ubuntu 9.04. What can I do?

                    regards, Peter

                        Zabbix 1.8 check this by function in file include/config.inc.php
                        $checkport = fsockopen($ZBX_SERVER, $ZBX_SERVER_PORT, $errnum, $errstr, 2);
                        if(!$checkport) {
                        clear_messages();
                        $status['zabbix_server'] = S_NO;
                        }
                        else {
                        $status['zabbix_server'] = S_YES;
                        [/I]
                        You can check and edit $ZBX_SERVER, $ZBX_SERVER_PORT in file conf/zabbix.conf.php properly with your server.
                        Default $ZBX_SERVER is localhost if you config zabbix_server listen on specific IP, replace localhost with your IP

                            Solution

                            Hi

                            The solution described by tanlinh worked for me, meaning the parameter $ZBX_SERVER needed to be set to my physical IP and not the loopback (127.0.0.1).

                            /S
