    IPMI discovery

We are trying to set up IPMI discovery and monitoring.

When configuring a new discovery check I do not see IPMI in the "check" list.
I could do a UDP 623 port scan, but that doesn't seem to be supported (I can only see TCP in the "check" list)

How can I configure discovery for an IPMI only host, add it to zabbix with an IPMI interface, then add a specific template that has IPMI checks?

    Thank you for your help!

Yes, I have seen that part of the documentation.
Unfortunately, it does not answer my question.
We have a large number of servers to monitor, and it is only going to grow.
Because we like to automate as much work as possible, we've set up our zabbix server to discover and add everything by itself.
It works for smtp devices, servers with the Zabbix agent, but we have not been able to make it work with IPMI.

          What do you mean?

I'm sorry, but I can't understand with what exactly you have a problem. Describe what you can't to do. If an error occurs, please specify where and which.

To discover a new device and add it automatically to Zabbix, you first make a discovery rule, and based on the result of that discovery, you create an "action" that will apply the required template to the device (for example).

For a template that contains IPMI checks to work on a host, that host has to have a an IPMI interface configured. (as per the documentation you previously linked)

My problem is this: in the discovery rules, I have seen no way to check if a host has an IPMI interface available.
Since I cannot check for the availability of IPMI, I have no way of applying a template that contains IPMI checks to that host, and even if I did apply one, that host would not have an IPMI interface.

To give you a similar situation that works, here is how the discovery works with an SNMP enabled host:
The discovery rule is configured to check all ICMP answering hosts on a given subnet that also answer on SNMP.
Then an action checks if there is a specific OID that mentions the manufacturer of the device, and applies the corresponding template.
Since the discovery check found that the device was SNMP capable, it added an SNMP interface, which is used by the template to get the monitored information.

I think this is still a problem at 2.0.9

It might be useful if missing snmp/ipmi interface info defaulted to the main agent address for a host. In many of my cases, they are the same.
