Add items to help_items table

can you provide me some info on how to add items to the help_items table and show the added items in the frontend?
I want to add another category like Win_PerfCounter and list there all the basic performance counters (i have this allready in a txt file).
Once i get this to work i'll provide you the info needed to include this in one of the next releases.
